Hurricane Sandy

Yesterday a big hurricane hit the east coast of America. The name of the hurricane was Sandy. In America, hurricanes are given names, in Japan typhoons are given numbers.

Usually hurricanes hit the southern part of the US, so it was rare that it went up north. Actually, the eye of the hurricane passed right over my hometown. Many of you have asked about my famlily, they are all safe, thank you.

8 million people lost electric power and some places still don't have power now. There was also a lot of flooding in towns and cities near the ocean. My hometown was ok, they didn't lose power and there was no flooding.

Below is a picture from my friend in New Jersey. A big tree in her yard blew over and hit her house. She is ok, but they have to fix the house.
