Snowboarding!

A couple weeks ago I went snowboarding with a couple of friends.  We rented a car and went up to Daisen early on a Sunday morning.

I didn’t think we needed snow tires, but my friend thought we did, so we paid 1,500 yen extra for them.  It was a good choice! We were stopped on the highway on the way up to make sure we had the correct tires, since some of the roads were completely covered in snow.  I hadn’t driven on roads that were that snowy in several years, so it was kind of a fun experience.

The road to Daisen.

The road to Daisen.

It was a holiday weekend, so it was very crowded.  We had to park down the mountain a little bit and then take a shuttle bus up to the entrance.  However, the conditions and weather were great! It snowed for most of the day and was very powdery.  We were able to keep going until about 4 pm and then headed home.  I’m hoping to go again in the next few weeks!

Fly, Eagles Fly

I’m not a big sports fan, but American football can be really exciting. And of course, it makes me happy to see my home team doing well. So I just have to brag that this year, the Philadelphia Eagles won the final game of the season - the Super Bowl!

This win was important to Eagles fans because it was the first time Philadelphia won the Super Bowl. They made it this far twice before, but lost the final game both times. The other team this year, the New England Patriots, are one of the best teams in football history. No one expected the Eagles to do well – they were the underdog.

It was an exciting game, with both teams playing well and scoring in turn. The ending was especially tense – I couldn’t look away from the screen. But with a final score of 41-33, the Eagles took home the Lombardi Trophy and earned their place in football history.

Thanks to Dave and Ayumi for hosting a little Super Bowl party at their house. I’m glad I got to watch the game live!
